Madame Rose Lummis
The Rose Lummis Dinner & Tour Boat was named after Madame Rose Lummis, a missionary of the Catholic Church who was revered as a dedicated, selfless servant to all.
"The Annotated Rose" documents the life of this remarkable woman whose family were early settlers of Sodus Point, NY. The book, written by Alan Firstone of Sodus Point is available for sale on the dinner boat.
It is said that Rose would provide Christmas gifts to the children of Sodus Point each holiday season without regard to their background, religious belief, or economic status. Madame Lummis has been noted for the same benevolence throughout much of her life, helping those less fortunate wherever she traveled.
Rose Lummis was also known for her sweet singing voice and as an enchanting pianist.
Interestingly enough, while streets and churches were named after her, no one has actually seen a photograph or illustration of this wonderful woman. However, rumor has it that the spirit of Rose Lummis is very much alive and has been known to visit the ship from time to time.
It is our hope that her kindness will touch you in some way during your visit and you will go forth and share her song and generosity with others.
